Adult Bible Studies

(Faith Formation for Adults)

At St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church we are called to act with justice, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with God. It is our duty to follow the way of our Lord Jesus Christ as intentional, faithful disciples. We offer a variety of different adult bible study and faith formation opportunities that are designed to help bring genuine conversion to the Lord Jesus and fidelity to His Gospel, while helping you grow in your faith with other members of our parish community.  With Jesus and the Sacraments of the Church as our center, our goal is to encourage every parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo to enter a path of following Christ through serious discipleship formation, spiritual growth, and Christian community.

The following bible studies and retreats are being offered this year.  The dates are tentative and are subject to change, so check this page regularly.  If there is a participant fee for a particular study or retreat it will be noted in the description of that event.  For questions, comments, or further information, please contact DRE Michael T. Barrett in the Ministry Center office at (941) 585-0668 or via email at faithformation@stcbc.org.

The Book of Job (Bible Study)

33days.jpg

Want to transform your work, your marriage, your family, and your life, but don’t have time? Looking for the quickest, surest, and easiest way to holiness, but don’t know where to begin? In our hectic day and time, Pope John Paul II and Blessed Mother Teresa knew that the quickest way to be transformed into a saint is through a relationship with Our Blessed Mother, Mary.

Join us on July 9th, as we begin a 33-day preparation for Marian Consecration. For sixweeks, we’ll individually read about and reflect on four great Marian giants: St. Louis deMontfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa, and Pope John Paul II. They’ll teach us the secrets to drawing closer to the Heart of Jesus through the Heart of Mary. In our weekly meetings, Tuesdays from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, we’ll share our insights within our small group and then watch a 30-minute video. The video by popular author and speaker, Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, brings our individual reflections and group experience into a clear and live-able focus.

If you’re looking for a simple way to be spiritually renewed, develop a deeper relationship with Our Merciful Savior, and grow in holiness, join us for 33 Days to Morning Glory Small-group Retreat. Please contact Faith Formation at faithformation@stcbc.org or call (941) 585-0668 prior to July 8th, 2019.

Revelation-BibleStudy.jpg

This bible study leads readers through a penetrating study of the the Revelation to St. John, using the biblical text itself and the Church's own guidelines for understanding the Bible.

Written in highly symbolic style, the Revelation to John is perhaps the most difficult book of the Bible to understand. Scholars have long debated whether the book is concerned mainly with a symbolic depiction of the struggle of good against evil or whether it applies to specific events in history-its own time, the general course of Church history, or the end of the world. The annotations and commentary on this volume draw on the best elements from each approach, while emphasizing the biblical author's immediate intention: to recount the heavenly vision he received as it applied to his own time. Modern scholarship, as well as insights from the Church Fathers and other classic commentators, help the reader make sense of what many people regard as a confusing book.

The Ignatius Catholic Study Bible includes Topical Essays, Word Studies and Charts. Each page features an easy-to-use Cross-Reference Section. Study Questions are provided for each biblical book, which can be used for personal or group study of the Word of God. Each biblical book includes an introductory essay covering questions of authorship, date, destination, structure and themes. Also included are outlines of each book.

The Revelation to St. John

ActsOfTheApostles.jpg

This bible study leads readers through a penetrating study of the Acts of the Apostles, using the biblical text itself and the Church's own guidelines for understanding the Bible. Ample notes accompany each page, providing fresh insights and commentary by renowned Bible teachers Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch, as well as time-tested interpretations from the Fathers of the Church. These helpful study notes make explicit what Acts often assumes or they provide rich historical, cultural, geographical or theological information pertinent to the readings - information that bridges the distance between the biblical world and our own.

The Ignatius Study Bible also includes Topical Essays, Word Studies and Charts. The Topical Essays explore the major themes of Acts, often relating them to the doctrines of the Church. The Word Studies explain the background to important Bible terms, while the Charts summarize crucial biblical information "at a glance".

Acts of the Apostles

The better we understand Jesus, the better we understand ourselves. But who was Jesus, this itinerant preacher whom many called the Messiah? In Priest, Prophet, King , you'll discover Jesus as the Anointed One - the ultimate priest, prophet, and king foreshadowed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures. Using biblical insights and engaging stories, Bishop Robert Barron affirms that we see Jesus most clearly through the lens of the Old Testament. Through this deeply biblical program, you will better understand Jesus, become more familiar with Scripture, and realize your own priestly, prophetic, and kingly mission, received when you are baptized "into Christ."
