Adult Bible Studies

(Faith Formation for Adults)

At St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church we are called to act with justice, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with God. It is our duty to follow the way of our Lord Jesus Christ as intentional, faithful disciples. We offer a variety of different adult bible study and faith formation opportunities that are designed to help bring genuine conversion to the Lord Jesus and fidelity to His Gospel, while helping you grow in your faith with other members of our parish community.  With Jesus and the Sacraments of the Church as our center, our goal is to encourage every parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo to enter a path of following Christ through serious discipleship formation, spiritual growth, and Christian community.

Due to the coronavirus, most of our adult bible studies will be conducted online using teleconferencing software.  Once scheduled, all of our bible studies will be listed below.  The dates are tentative and are subject to change, so check this page regularly.  If there is a participant fee for a particular study or retreat it will be noted in the description of that event.  For questions, comments, or further information, please contact DRE Michael T. Barrett in the Ministry Center office at (941) 585-0668 or via email at faithformation@stcbc.org.

Adult Faith Formation Opportunities

August 11, 2020 - May 11, 2021 (39 weeks)

Straight Outta The Catechism

When: Tuesday Evenings (6:30pm - 8:30pm)

Format: Catechism Study, Scripture Study, Discussion

Leader: Michael T. Barrett, Director of Religious Education

Required Materials: Catechism of the Catholic Church, Bible

Cost: FREE

Why do we baptize infants, who can't decide for themselves and haven't committed any sins? Do Catholics really believe that people who die without baptism are going to hell? What if a baby dies before she can be baptized? Where did the sacrament of baptism come from? Did Jesus baptize anyone? Why can't my brother be a godparent? He doesn't go to Mass anymore, but he's a good person! Is it true that anyone can baptize in an emergency, not just priests and deacons? Why doesn't the Catholic Church re-baptize someone becoming Catholic who was baptized in a different Christian church?

How do we know that Jesus really meant it when he said, “This is my body”? If we eat Jesus’ body and blood, are we cannibals? What’s the deal with Eucharistic miracles? Do hosts really bleed? Why can’t we welcome other Christians, divorced and remarried Catholics, and some Catholic politicians to the Eucharistic table? When might I need to abstain from Communion? What should a priest do if a fly drowns in the precious blood? If the Eucharist is Christ’s sacrifice, do Catholics believe that Jesus dies again every time we celebrate Mass? Will we celebrate the Eucharist in Heaven?

Find out the answers to these questions and more at Straight Outta the Catechism! Our adult study series that addresses what you've been wondering about the sacraments, morality, and the rest of Church teaching. Join us for a dose of hard-hitting truth and no-nonsense answers to your questions. Our first session this year will be Tuesday, August 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the Ministry Center.
